Transmission is a two evening electronic music event located in the Westwood neighborhood of Cincinnati. This event will showcase some of the most creative, circuit-bending musicians from the region that fuse together electronics and sound. Transmission also offers a workshop where you can learn to hack into electronics and discover your own creative side with classes by Kyle E. Evans, an electronic music professor from the University of Texas.

This is the first event that we hope will grow into an annual destination for our neighborhood and inspire generations of young artists to learn about resourceful modes of creative expression and celebrate the rich and diverse history of this ever evolving genre of music.

Transmission is produced by Basketshop Gallery’s media extension CANARY with special funding from the Artswave: Catalyzing Impact Award and donations made possible through the community-led crowdsourcing platform IOBY.

Workshop Description:

This hands-on workshop will guide each student through the process of building their own light-reactive synth circuit! We will be creating a simple to build but amazingly complex-sounding electronic circuit popularized by Nicolas Collins in his book Handmade Electronic Music. We will be discussing the basic principles of sound synthesis, how the circuit works, and the electronic components used to create it. At the end of the workshop, each student will walk away with their very own DIY synth that they can continue to bend, hack, and expand further.
