Basketshop is pleased to present Open Doors | Open Borders featuring two works by Mid-West artist and curator Paul Shortt. One is an installation of multiple door stops in response to the Trump’s travel ban. On either side of the stops are engraved the words “Open Doors” and “Open Borders”. Half the proceeds of this door stop installation will be donated to an organization in Indiana that works with refugees.

The second work "How Do You Say No" is an ongoing series of Risograph printed signs that appropriate cautionary language from street signs:“Alarm Will Sound.” Both bodies of work are created with the intent to put subtle political gestures into the hands of viewers in order to activate their spaces of choice.

Shortt received his MFA in New Media Art from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his BFA in Painting from the Kansas City Art Institute. He has exhibited nationally and internationally. His artist books are in the collections of the MoMa, the Whitney Museum of Art, and the Fisher Fine Arts Library at the University of Pennsylvania.

Please join us on Saturday August, 11 from 5-10pm for opening and artist reception. Free and open to the public.
