Basketshop, in association with neighborhood organization Westwood Works, is pleased to present Small Works by David Heo. The artist will be exhibiting 11 works of collages and prints in the gallery as well as a large mural on the side of the gallery building.

Heo describes his painting style as containing “meticulous hard edges, vibrant colors, and nostalgic materials to create an interplay between graphic design and painterly surfaces”. His work reflects on the irregular rhythm of pleasure and leisure, fleeting moments and seemingly mundane relationships. Heo subtly presents themes ranging from the complexity of Asian-American identity within American culture to the misunderstood human interactions that one experiences with a uniquely spirited approach.

David Heo was born in Atlanta, Georgia and now lives and works in Chicago. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degree of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a residency at Korea University in Seoul. Heo’s work has been exhibited internationally and has been featured in various publications.

Westwood Works is an asset–based community development organization that celebrates the Westwood community. By building on the strengths that exist and connecting people to build a vibrant future, Westwood Works advocates for a positive, collaborative, and meaningful approach to community building.
