BasketShop in participation with ACRE Residency introduces Danny Floyd for his solo exhibition titled Nothing Can Surpass. The title, derived from E. E. Cummings’ “Poem 42”, manifests itself in the gallery and is a continuation of Floyd’s ongoing Paper series. In this series the artist collects a variety of writings and musical scores, arranging them so that the viewer can consider how the physical manifestation of something that is typically read can otherwise be perceived.

Surrounding the walls of the gallery are thirty-three small paintings of stills from The Simpsons that captures moments when the characters are in complete darkness. As the disembodied eyes float in a void, the characters become a humorous audience that solely relies on their sense of sight to inform them. In Nothing Can Surpass, Danny Floyd places the viewer in a space of stillness and asks them to reflect on how their perception of media is affected by distance and time.

Danny Floyd is an artist, researcher, and educator based out of Chicago. He holds a BFA in Photography from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), an MA in Visual and Critical Studies, and an MFA in Sculpture both from School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He founded Ballroom Projects, an artist-run space in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood. Currently, he co-directs independent gallery Adler & Floyd.
